If your kitchen hasn't gotten the memo that it's summer yet, we’ve got to fix that immediately! Incorporating summer kitchen decor is the perfect excuse to bring the outdoors in. Except for those pesky bugs of course, let’s leave those outside.
I love a kitchen that looks like it just came back from the farmers market. Full of bright colors, living plants, and sun-washed surfaces everywhere you look.
I put together some of my favorite summer kitchen decor ideas that you can pull off this weekend. And no, you don’t have to paint your entire kitchen yellow (unless that’s your thing).
Read on for some great summer inspiration.
Fresh Produce as Counter Decor
Remember when I said about a kitchen looking like you came back from the farmers market? I was serious!
Instead of putting your market haul into the fridge as soon as you get home, pile those heirloom tomatoes, plums, and oranges into a rustic wooden tray or scatter them alongside some vintage drinkware.
The mix of deep reds, greens, and sun-ripened oranges gives your countertop a richness that no lone candle ever could. And your display changes as you cook throughout the week…until your next trip to the market!
What a charming way to bring color and life to your kitchen without a single trip to the decor aisle.
Yellow All Over
Isn’t yellow such a fun color? You have so many options here. Sunny wildflowers spilling out of a vase, bright lemons scattered on the counter, warm golden hues everywhere you look.
The key design element here is the commitment. Instead of dipping your toe in the water with a single yellow accent hiding in a neutral kitchen, go full-on. Even combine shades of butter, honey, and lemon together, until the whole room starts to look like a July afternoon.
Grab a bunch of inexpensive wildflowers, toss a few lemons on a cutting board, and let yellow do what yellow does best, make everything warmer.
Go ahead, let the sunshine take over!
Striped Linen Towels for a Breezy Touch
This might be the easiest swap you do all summer. If you want your kitchen to look like summer without repainting a single wall, start with your towels.
Hang a set of striped linen towels on a hook or rustic door handle and…voila! Linen has that undone, slightly rumpled texture that’s a perfect nod towards warm weather.
And because they're functional, you don't need to justify the purchase to anyone. Swap out your heavy winter hand towels for lightweight linen in soft blues, greens, or warm neutrals. It's a two-minute upgrade that’s a great addition to your kitchen.
Colorful Bouquets
Honestly, I think that a bouquet on the kitchen counter is lovely any time of the year. But in the summer, you have full permission to go bright and bold with your colors.
Think coral, sunny yellow, hot pink, bright orange, any of those colors that remind you of summer. And if you’re not a flower expert (like me!), no need to overthink the arrangement. Loose, colorful, a little unruly. That's the sweet spot.
Fresh Fruit in a Bowl
When it comes to putting fruit in a bowl for display, it only works if the bowl is worth looking at.
So ditch the generic white plastic bowl and go with a bowl that stands out. Perhaps one that’s oversized, has a unique shape, or is a vibrant color. Congrats, you’ve now turned a pile of grapes and peaches into a centerpiece!
Set it on the counter or the center of your kitchen table and you've got an edible arrangement.
Candles on the Counter
Here's another easy one for you, a candle on the kitchen island or on the counter. And you've got options. A large pillar candle in creamy white or soft sage makes a gorgeous centerpiece, while a few votives scattered around add a subtle glow without taking up much space.
Scent-wise, think citrus, herbs, or light florals for summer, like rosemary mint or lavender (they won’t compete with whatever you’ve got on the stove).
If your candle is near a cooktop or in a high-traffic spot where kids or elbows might knock it over, there's no shame in keeping it unlit and purely decorative.
A Succulent Centerpiece
I love succulents because they’re low effort and high reward. Grouped together in a wide, shallow white bowl, they create a centerpiece that’s modern and organic at the same time.
Place the pot on your kitchen table or island, maybe flank it with a couple of small decorative dishes, and that’s it! No watering schedule to stress about, no wilting by Thursday.
Bright Bar Stools
Looking for another way to get in some yellow? Then pull up a seat! Bold yellow bar seats are a great way to brighten up your kitchen.
The design element here is the contrast. When your cabinetry or walls are more on the cool side, introducing a warm, saturated color makes the kitchen pop.
And if you don’t want to replace your bar stools, just find some yellow cushion covers. Same color effect, way less effort!
Potted Herbs
Potted herbs look great in any kitchen and are also practical as a handy ingredient for your next meal.
Place them on the window sill above the sink, line a few along the back of the counter, or cluster them near the stove where you'll use them.
A mini row of pots on the counter adds color without taking up much room. Basil, rosemary, or even mint will thrive with the humidity and light a kitchen provides. Plus, there's something about glancing up while you're washing dishes and seeing something green and alive that makes the task slightly less annoying.
Slightly.
